Hymnal sang by Duggar and Hulk. Duggar finally paid up his debt from last Memorial Day. It was truly special.

YHC signed up for the Memorial Day Q to help promote the Murph WOD and the event as a whole. It’s a great way to put some perspective on what is and isn’t really difficult in our daily lives. Being a day marked to honor deceased veterans it always ends up creating a good discussion within the group. This year was no different and was actually spurred on to promote some serious dialogue. Why can’t we thank veteran’s today? Do retired deceased veterans count as folks that need to be honored? What about guys that die by accidents, like a car crash, or had a heart attack during their sleep? Do we honor these guys today, tomorrow, or in November on Veteran’s Day? Why can’t we thank living veterans today? These are all great questions. The difficulty is that for those close to the fallen its a horrible reminder that they aren’t there. It can also mean that someone has internalized the blame for the event even happening. It’s tough to tell this as you pass a guy in the grocery store until he blows up on you for thanking him for his service. Or worse, what if it’s the loved one left behind? That could end with a twitter vid of some spouse straight going off on someone. Most vets have an issue with the phrase, “Happy Memorial Day!” I put myself in this category. There’s nothing happy about the intentions of this holiday. All the hotdogs, hamburgers, and cold beer in the world aren’t going to stop the pain of loosing a loved one. My recommendation is that you treat every person that you meet on Memorial Day as if they have lost a sibling, child, or parent. The ones that did will truly appreciate it, the ones that didn’t may find some new perspective for what the real intentions for this day actually are. So wish the milkman a happy memorial day if you’d like. I’m sure they deserve it. But ask yourself are you really trying to honor them or are you being obstinate for the sake of the argument? It was an honor and a pleasure.
