F3 Greenwood

It’s the first day of November’s Merkin Challenge. 16,000 Merkins in 30 days. I knew the PAX needed a little boost in their numbers, so I tried to offer up as many Merkins as I could within a workout (well, without just totally blowing everyone’s shoulders). I learned later that we actually need 533 points per day, so should have thrown in a few more.

Conditions: Cool 47 degrees, mildly humid.

Grab one coupon per 2 PAX team and meet at the bench on the grassy knoll.

The Thang – a reverse DORA

Work will be done on bench end, then run to flag pole and do 10 Merkins each time. Count only the Merkins, not the work, and advance only when both PAX have done the required Merkins.

Start with squats.

At 50 Merkins (both PAX individually), go to block pullovers

At 100 Merkins, overhead press

At 150 Merkins, LBCs

At 200 Merkins, curls

More was available, but time was running short, so, for fun, we did Mary with 10 IC Flutter kicks alternating with 20 Merkins oyo x 3 rounds. An audible that was highly appreciated by the PAX.

Announcements: obviously the Merkin Challenge is going on. Double points for Merkins done at an official F3 workout (BC or run). Single points on your own. A rumored triple points for Merkins done at Happy Hour – we’ll see how that goes. Nov. 13th is the convergence at the Pistol in Abbeville. Lots of 5Ks around – pick a weekend, and you got one – or do them all.

Prayer requests: Pothole’s BIL still not going well. UJ in recovery from surgery – doing well. Quickie’s newest addition (along with M) doing well.

I figured we’d do a ton of Merkins today, and most got around 260, which gives 520 points for the day. Even with all that, it still doesn’t hit the mark needed for a day’s worth, to do EVERY day, the ENTIRE month of November. That mark might be a little high, IMHO.

The combination of overhead press and Merkins was particularly painful, and everyone was glad to reach the appropriate level and move on. Crayola and Abba crushed it as expected, being the front leaders and getting just started on the curls when time was called. A few skinny runners, still floating on their marathon high, struggled just a bit doing so many Merkins. Hang in there boys, it’ll come back quickly.

Overall, work was done and a good time (even though a bit painful) was had by all. Those doing the Challenge are a bit mental, but will be an amazing feat to accomplish. I heard we covered about 2 miles running the knoll, as well. A good day.

Till next one,
