F3 Greenwood

Conditions: 48 Degrees and Rainy (one lightning strike, falling tree/limbs)

When I emerged from the fartsack for the trek to Hustle, I wished that I hadn’t signed up to Q. The rain was pouring down, but that wasn’t the reason. The day before, I ushered in the New Year with an 11-mile run and I wasn’t sure my knees were ready for speed work. I was right, but I was ready to power through any discomfort.

After arriving at the usual location, I was the only one there. With a few minutes left before the workout was scheduled to kick-off, Flossy arrived on the scene and we got right to work.

Disclaimer: Not necessary

The Thang:

The plan was to do multiple exercises, but most of the work required more than two people. So, we went with 800-meter repeats. Flossy, completed the work and then some. YHC modified significantly.

Though I couldn’t really kick it into high gear, I felt better with every lap.

The more the rain came down, the more I thought about the various kinds of storms we face in life and how this new year will come with its fair share. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not feeling negative in the face of a new year. To the contrary, I know that the support system that is F3 can help a man weather some of the biggest storms he can face in this life. That thought gives me a lot of hope for the coming year.

As I pushed through the rain, I was reminded—largely by the fact that I was out in that kind of weather because I signed up to Q—that I am not doing any of this (workout or otherwise) alone.

After all, facing any storm is easier when you know you have brothers you can count on, who are, in turn, counting on you.

Count-o-rama and name-o-rama were not necessary. Any announcements could also be found in this week’s newsletter.

Prayer Requests: Flossy’s Uncle Bubba. Piddler’s Father-in-law. Rocky.
