It’s the original REDFriday workout. Over the course of the past three years, we have exported it with a modicum of success, but it never has felt quite the same as it does in the Wood. Today was no exception and 7 pax put out all they had to honor the 31 Americans killed during Extortion 1-7.
Partner up. 31 min AMRAP.
One partner works while the other does the 400m burden run. Flapjack and pick up where your partner left off on the work.
8 thrusters
6 wall walks
11 burpee box jumps
400m burden run
We didn’t keep score. One team. One mission. Win or lose together, just like the heroes we honor.
We tell the stories of heroes because they are worth telling. We tell them to inspire ourselves and others to operate beyond what we think we are capable of doing. Too often, though, we think we can just steel our minds and act like a hero when the time arises.
That’s not how heroes think.
They practice small acts of heroism each and every day. They seek 1% improvement each day. They grind each day. All the small acts build on each other and courageous action becomes a HABIT not a singular action. In each story we have ever told on REDFriday, the courageous action that cost the hero his or her life is the most natural thing for them to do be doing because they have made courageous action the pattern of their lives.
So, too, can we. And, really, we must. If any community needs strong male leaders right now it is Greenwood. If any community needs strong husbands and fathers right now it is Greenwood. If any family needs a strong leader then it is my family. And your family.
What are we doing to build habits of courageous action? What are we doing to improve 1% today?
It is my hope that everyone’s mind and soul were challenged as much as their body this morning.
Happy birthday REDFriday. It’s beenamazing watching you grow up and change lives the last three years.
Take a moment to watch this video of the homecoming of one of America’s heroes. It is well worth your time.
