This past Tuesday marked the 11th anniversary of Operation Red Wings and YHC, seeing he had the Q for REDFriday, decided to cook up a hero WOD to honor those brave men. YHC was joined by seven other men looking to honor the fallen in the gloom.
LiteBrite made his triumphant return to the gloom and toyed with the rest of us while making easy work of the WOD. #Machine
The camaraderie of REDFriday was on full display, particularly when it came to Duggar’s musical selection for the workout. Unanimously decided that we all liked Duggar’s blue tooth speaker, but not his choice of workout music.
Hopefully, we will see this one again later rather than sooner, but the pain was a reminder that our service men and women endure much for our peace and comfort.
Here’s how it went:
5 RFT:
- 28 box jumps
- 28 OH press
- 28 thrusters
- 28 pike merkins
- 28 KB swings
- 28 WWI sit-ups
TIMES:
- Roach – 34:34
- LiteBrite – 43:26
- Duggar – 43:27
- Alpo – 43:28
- Juggernaut – 43:31
- BabyBlu – 48:06
- Rodman – 50:45
- MeterMaid – 50:53
The WOD represented the date of the failed operation. Six movements (for June), 28 reps, 5 rounds. It was on 6/28/05 that Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, Matthew Axelson and Marcus Luttrell ascended the mountain known as Sawtalo Sar near Asadabad, Afghanistan to perform surveillance on a high-value Taliban target. Their location was compromised and a large gunfight ensued. In an effort to rescue the entrapped SEALs, a Quick Reaction Force of 8 SEALs and 8 Army Special Operations Aviators was shot down and all were killed. The operation marked the largest loss of life in U.S. Special Forces history until Extortion 17 on 8/6/11.
It is always a pleasure to lead a group of F3 men, particularly on REDFriday, which is very near and dear to YHC’s heart.
There are many issues plaguing the men of F3 Greenwood, ranging from large to small. While we like to rank these things from least to greatest, if a man perceives something as a problem, then it is a problem and we are called to support each other. Prayers were offered for BlueBall and Flossy’s family. The rest of us solemnly acknowledged that, given what REDFriday stands for, we must persevere and stand in the gap for these brothers. God is first, my friends and family are second and #IAmThird.
Aye!
