5 pax posted to honor Army Specialist Scott Morrison. Work was Done!
US Army Specialist Scott Morrison, 23, of Blue Ash, Ohio, assigned to the 584th Mobility Augmentation Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, was based out of Fort Hood, Texas. He died on September 26, 2010, from injuries suffered on September 25 when insurgents in Kandahar, Afghanistan attacked his vehicle with an IED. He is survived by his father Donald, mother Susan, brother Gary, and sister Katie.
Friday we honored a man that was not an elite warrior assigned to a special operations unit, but regular joe, a guy very well like the rest of us. He volunteered same as any, and had a job to do. While doing that job he was killed in a place far from home. A place he was unlikely to visit outside of his current occupation, a place he was welcomed by some and hated by others. If he was not there driving down that specific road, it is possible that he lives to see his grandchildren play on the swing set he made for them. But he was, he didn’t make it down that road. He didn’t shirk when his name was called. He showed up and conducted his business to the best of his abilities like the professional he truly was. What he was doing makes no real difference. Someone there needed something, whether it was another brother or sister in service, or a civilian local. He was doing his job there, so that we can sleep peacefully here. He was a long long way from home so that our children do not have to grow up with horrific visions of war gained only by first hand experiences learned on our home soil. It is this reason, this overwhelming necessity that our military was bolstered in the early 20th Century for this most important mission. It has been designed and redesigned sparing no expense, save the soldier, with this as its fundamental purpose. This foundation of protecting our borders by taking the fight to the enemy on far away lands so that we may worship and work, live and love, laugh and cry without persecution or tyranny. In a meaningless and humble half hour of toil we offer our deepest most sincerest thanks and appreciation.
