F3 Greenwood

Conditions- mid 30’s with a nasty wind chill.

5:59- one minute warning and disclaimer given as UJ pulls in.

I had 3 hard hitting HC’s last night. All three showed up along with a surprise visit from Mac N Cheese. The nasty breeze made it cold as a well diggers crack so we hustled up to the building to seek some refuge. It helped a little, but there was no hiding from it. No more wasted time. Let’s get to it.

Early finishers caught up on merkins and abs for the November challenge.

Sgt Zachary Tellier, 31, was a combat infantryman with the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, at Fort Bragg. He died Sept. 29, 2007 of wounds sustained while on a ground patrol in Afghanistan. The previous April, Tellier’s unit was conducting a mounted patrol when one of its vehicles drove over and detonated a bomb, which set the vehicle on fire. Tellier pulled two paratroopers out of the vehicle to safety, suffering severe burns to his hands. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with valor for his actions. After he was burned, Tellier jumped up in the turret to return fire.

NMM- I just want to thank this crew for coming out this morning and honoring a fallen warrior. Of all days in the year to fartsack, it would be the morning after one of the biggest food bingeing, nap taking, stretchy pants wearing holidays of the year. Not for these guys. It was cold when they walked outside. They came anyway. It was windy. They came anyway. How does this pale in comparison to what Zachary did? This dude jumped back into a burning vehicle with burns to man a gun against his attackers. My worst days don’t compare to this.  Each and every RED Friday we honor someone just like this. I hold RED Friday more special than most workouts. These men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice. I can at least come out and post to give my very best effort to honor them. And that very best doesn’t come by cutting my merkins short, or doing a half squat. It comes by honoring them with my time and to give my absolute best in form and effort. That is exactly what these men did this morning. Work was done. Sweat was poured. Honor was given. Mumblechatter was almost nonexistent. Next time you think about hitting the snooze button on RED Friday, think about someone like Zachary. He went back for his brothers to save them from a fire that was going to consume them. You can post and make a difference for a PAX that may be  battling a similar fire in their life.
