RED Friday: FORREST

Today we honor U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Forrest Nelson Leamon, 37, who was killed Oct. 26, 2009. Special Agents Forrest Leamon, Chad Michael, and Michael Weston were killed in a helicopter accident in Afghanistan. Seven additional military service members were also killed.

Special Agent Leamon, a member of FAST Team Echo, had served in the U.S. Navy for nine years as a Cryptologic Technician, receiving campaign medals for his service in Southwest Asia and Bosnia, before joining the DEA in 2002. In 2007, Agent Leamon volunteered to serve as a member of a FAST team in Afghanistan, where he served multiple FAST team tours. He is survived by his wife, their unborn child, his parents, and his sister.

Announcements: Saturday’s BC is at Talon (with a 2.0)

Prayer Requests: Prayers for Tickle’s Uncle (upcoming quadruple by-pass surgery) who is 74 years young.

Reading: Hebrews 12: 11 – 13

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

To that end, YHC saw a post on the internet that said: “If you quit now… you’ll end up right back where you began. And, when you first began, you were desperate to be where you are right now.

Let us pray, Lord, thank you for this day and for this fellowship. Help us recognize our own shortcomings and always remember that we are third. Help us use that wisdom throughout our day, week, and month. Help us become stronger, wiser, and more loving men. Help us overcome our fears and prejudices. Allow us to be vulnerable and embrace your grace. We humbly ask that you hear our prayer requests today – spoken and unspoken. Protect us and give us the strength to help others in need including our family, friends, and colleagues.

Our Lady of Victory… Pray for Us. In Jesus name we pray… Amen.

Mumblechatter: RED Friday never, ever, seems… easy? Did the Cuban music help? I think so… but… As YHC searched for Hero WOD’s, every example seemed more difficult than the previous example. No matter. The PAX showed up ready to work. Mary Ann wanted to “talk football” so YHC humored him indicating that’s what we were going to do (I lied).

When PAX were “encouraged” to wear gloves (some PAX arrived empty-handed), Inspector became worried… wondering what was in store?!? Tickle and Belle were able to accommodate PAS with extra gloves. Toes-to-Bar (Knee-Up’s) proved challenging. A cool mist/fog was hanging in the air and everything was slick. No matter. PAX stepped up and got it done.

This one was a grinder… aren’t they all? The Big Boy’s, T2B (Knee Up’s) and burpees combined with an 800 meter repeat made for an interesting combination and we will all be reminded of this one tomorrow! Everyone gutted it out and got it done. YHC offers up “respect” to Tickle for showing up, putting in the effort, and doing what he can do. Well done. All PAX got it done. When “recover” was called, we did finish with some stretching and called it a day at 6:00 a.m.

P.S. Today’s soundtrack was Cuban Radio courtesy of Pandora. By the end of the workout, we were all speaking conversational Spanish if not fluent. The soundtrack was in honor of our armed forces at Boca Chica Naval Air Station in Key West, FL and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
