I signed up for this RED Friday with the intent of running the Extortion 17 Hero WOD due to it’s anniversary being 8/6/11.  Unfortunately I was unable to create an area to perform the rope climb.  As time grew closer it became an impossibility so a new WOD was needed.  That’s when I found the Schmalstieg WOD or “Schmalls” for short.  It had a few exercise variations that are outside of the norm for our region which sparked my initial interest and it looked like it was a tough workout.  YHC provided the necessary modifications to fit the AO and still hold true to the honor and respect intended for it’s Hero namesake.  Here’s a nice write up about Justin Schmalstieg.  http://www.eodwarriorfoundation.org/memorial/warrior/justin-e-schmalstieg

Iron Pax Challenge starts this Sunday

Several mentioned for those that were there.

NMM:

  • The coupon cage was unlocked and there was a new lock on it.  Not sure how BenGay left it.  Not sure if its the same code.
  • Pacer had to modify due to a wrist injury but found work to plow through as he was pushing Duggar or struggling to stay with him.  I couldn’t really tell.  They both shot out to a lead during the run and continued to remain ahead of the pack for the remainder of the work.
  • Weaver was in the groove this morning and appears to be primed & ready to challenge Big John Gary for the fittest man in the Wood.
  • 2C pushed through the Burpees and PullUps and pulled out a photo finish ahead of BenGay.  The guy has made some serious gains physically, but is really beginning to spread his wings as a mumblechatter aficionado.
  • This was my first workout with Bologna.  He put in a ton of effort and found some new ways to modify some of the exercises that will be beneficial to building his fitness foundation.  I had to stop him from completing his final 400meters because we were well passed 6 when all of were finishing.  Q fail for not being prepared to start precisely at 0515.  Keep posting and you’ll start to notice changes not only in how you perform the exercises, but your interactions with others outside of the workout.  It only starts with a workout.
  • Glad to have BenGay back in the Wood from vacation after a short workout hiatus.

Great effort today by all of the guys!  It would have been very easy to become discouraged by the weather forecast and fartsack, but these fine men did not waiver.  We were ultimately rewarded for our attendance by enjoying a rain free morning.  It was an honor and privilege to sweat with the guys to the glory of a fallen brother.  Always remember that everything each of us enjoys about this great country came from the many that stood up to defend those freedoms overseas and protect our homelands from conflicts.
