Four pax – yes, you read that correctly – and one hurri- er, rain shower posted for what was billed as a convergence. It turned out to be a character tester. You probably should have been there.
YHC had a heck of workout planned and had been looking forward to it since it is something new to the pax here. Nut, upon arrival at Fury, YHC was met with a truck blocking the road. Roach was out inspecting something quite large. Turned out to be a massive pine tree that had fallen across the road. As the two of us were marveling at the size and how the tree fell, Thumper came flying up in his hot new (to him) ride. He hopped out and looked at the tree with the same thought as Roach and I – looks like the first part of the workout will be to remove the tree from the road. Aye.
We got to work and then Pothole came rolling up to shed some light on the situation. The four of us proceeded to clear the road for the good people of the Genesis Education Center who are so kind as to let us treat their property – what we refer to as Fury – as our own.
And clear the road we did. It took about 30 minutes. We were all good and warmed up so we moseyed down to the gazebo and YHC audibled to an oldie but goodie. But the best part was learning so much about Pothole’s early family struggles and sharing in Thumper’s latest family triumph. We prayed for three generations of men in Roach’s family as his grandfather prepares to join the SkyQ in Paradise.
All in all, it was a great day, but the four of us couldn’t help but wonder what happened to all the pax. There were a very few over at the Shipyard. We ran into those fine fellas while getting charged the 27th different amount for the exact same food at Howard’s. The usual suspects were present, as always.
YHC resisted even writing this BB. There are lots of emotions swirling and not all of them good. But, as my M pointed out to me – I owe it to those three men who put themselves aside and posted next to me in the gloom to get the BB done. So here it is. A surprisingly sterile version of events after a day filled with the full gamut of emotions.
Hopefully, others can begin to understand what it took to get to this point, though YHC will freely admit that he wouldn’t bet on it. Hours on top of hours making sure that we could operate at the highest level when people started showing up. Countless dollars that will never be reimbursed paying for things that would make the F3Greenwood experience the best it could possibly be. The stress of not knowing what the hell we were doing, but not willing to give up and let it fall by the wayside. The acknowledgement that we all brought different things to the table that made the whole better – even if we personally were driven crazy by some of those gifts (Shout out to Meatloaf right here both as the aggravator and the aggravated. We are kinda opposites when it comes to personality and all).
If you didn’t post this morning, that was totally your decision. YHC simply asks you consider this: What if a man posted hoping to see you there because he knew you were consistent and committed and then you weren’t there? We don’t post for ourselves. We post for the man next to us because we may be the only reason he is there – and he may be the only reason we are there.
Aye.
