Once again, BoyGeorge outdid himself as he planned another great weekend campout for the pax plus their 2.0s. As always, Connie Maxwell’s Camp Oasis served as base camp for the activities.

Conditions: perfect for a campout, or any other activity in general

As usual the festivities were set to begin on Friday afternoon with a suggested arrival of 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Pax and 2.0s wandered in during this general timeframe and began to make themselves at home by picking out sleeping arrrangements and setting up camp. Food prep for the hot dog and hamburger cookout also soon commenced.

2.0s slowly settled in with each other and began playing impromptu games of soccer and volleyball. At some point the 2.0s also discovered a trail and started doing some exploring, some even ended up in the horse pen.

A dinner of hamburgers and dogs were enjoyed by all. After dinner, pax and 2.0s settled in around the camp fire ring (no fire yet, more on that later) and began with some general BSing and a game of hide and seek.

JudgeHairy brought an impactful word about friendship that resonated not only with the 2.0s but the pax also. Kibbles&Bits (formerly SlipperyBooger) brought it all home with a prayer for the ages, she’s a 4 year old young lady by the way.

Bedtime commenced for most pax and 2.0s, just as Piddler began firing up the smoker to cook BBQ for the next days lunch.

A few pax and 2.0s left the campsite early and attended an UltimateFrisbee fest at TheShipyard – a good time was had by all. Rumor has it that YHC may have wiped on one of Meatloafs kids, who still hung on for the TD grab.

Back at camp, Meatloaf gave great effort to lead a kids workout, the kids put in great effort to perform the workout, until the “stickers” in the grass become too painful.

Free time was enjoyed by all, whether that meant fishing, just hanging out or helping to put the finishing touches on the lunch spread.

Around lunchtime, the Ms started to make their way into camp to enjoy a BBQ feast graciously prepared by Piddler.

Moleskin

  • #tclaps to BoyGeorge for all of his planning and meticulous scheduling of this event – not sure if the pax or 2.0s enjoy it more
  • #tclaps to Piddler for procuring a smoker that didn’t include birds nest like the one on site
  • a hearty discussion was had to determine if the smoker was a reverse flow or just a traditional offset stick burner – its an offset stick burner
  • somewhere during the week a text thread started among the “cookteam” (YHC, Piddler, JusgeJudy, BoyGeorge) that included many references to how to find the best meat and who had the most experience judging butts – Boston butts of course
  • JudgeHairy was truly a #HIM (HighImpactMan) as he efforted for at least half an hour to get the camp fire going – even endured smoke inhalation that would make Snoop Dogg jealous
  • Pothole was truly a #LIM (LowImpactMan) as he watched JudgeHairy effort and then offered a starter log after the fire was blazing
  • UnclePusher made a Friday night appearance
  • luckily Alpo had given the kids the rules of the weekend – stay out of the fire, stay out of the pond, and stay away from UnclePusher
  • JudgeJudy may or may not have violated some of the meat while applying rub
  • speaking of JudgeJudy, #tclaps to him for bringing his DJ gear for the weekend
  • im sure I’m forgetting a ton that happened and missed the late night activities as I was asleep in a sleeping bag, in a twin bunk bed, with my 8 year old – somehow he couldn’t go to sleep any other way

The bi-annual campout is always a good time for the pax and 2.0s. It is nice to take some time outside the hustle and bustle, disconnect from technology and spend time with a group of #HIMs (Pothole included) and our 2.0s.
