“Gun shots rang out like a bell” is a line from one of my favorite songs growing up, Ice Ice Baby. And when we hear gun shots in The Wood we run for the hills, because they are alive. It was an eventful morning in The Wood, as usual unfortunately. Pothole was first on the scene and heard what he thought were firecrackers but soon a swarm of police cars began arriving across the street from the Fountain and we realized it was gun shots. YHC wanted to head to Seaboard to get the scoop and run the hills but the PAX were skidish about heading behind enemy lines into the gun fight armed with only their legs. So we opted to head for the bowl.
Conditions: 46 Degrees, a little chilly and a lot leery of the high activity
The Thang:
We had our warm-up jog to the bowl. Once there we spent 20 minutes pushing up one hills, coasting back down and pushing up the other hill and coasting back down and pushing back up the other hill…..
Then we headed to the old Stokies parking lot for some short hill sprints, followed by a sprint back to the flag.

- Love seeing more and more new PAX join us for the run groups and start posting more often.
- Also love seeing all the progress the PAX are making running faster, harder, longer.
- I’m not a runner, really I’m not a runner. I hated running before I was challenged that I’m not a runner is not an excuse not to run. Phonebooth from Lake Murray came up to lead one of the 6 Saturdays when F3 Greenwood Launched. He was encouraging us to join the run groups and mine and others excuse was I’m not a runner. His replay was neither was I until I started running. I had never ran more about 2 miles at one time at any point in my life. So a few weeks later I began coming to the run groups and really began to #getbetter and actually enjoy running. I can’t believe I just said that but its true. I look forward to our Mon, Wed, Fri groups. Yes sometimes it sucks and its a struggle but I’m always glad I came out.
- My first Fountain Out and Back run 6/22/15. I ran/jogged/walked/stopped to stretch my shin splints for 2.8 Miles in 42 Minutes at a 15 Minute Pace. This past Monday 11/16/15 I ran 5 Miles 44 minutes 8:51 Pace.
- My first Starbucks 5K was 6/24/15 I ran/jogged/walked/stretched my shin splints for 2.6 Miles in 30 Minutes at a 11:30 Pace. This past Wednesday Starbucks 5K 11/18/15 I ran 3.24 Miles in 26:55 for a 8:19 Pace.
- I don’t say these things to brag but to show you that you don’t have to be a runner to come out and run. I totally sucked at running when I started and still do to a certain extent, but I’m getting better and I’m challenged to keep setting new goals and breaking my PR by all of the run PAX that join us Mon, Wed and Fri.
- Come out and run with us we all are not runners.
Aye!
