The Thang

When we began training for the BRR last year, we added Friday “Hill” runs to prepare us for the mountains of NC.  Needless to say, we don’t have anything close that compares for what was in store for us.  Along the way, some sick minded PAX came up with a Friday run that incorporated running and hill work, along with some cardio-challenging stair work too.  And thus, “The Wolverine” was born.  Always wanting to be a crowd pleaser (and with a hint sickness all his own), YHC decided it only fitting to add a little twist to an already challenging course. The Wolverine in reverse, with a couple of twists along the way….

Leaving the Fountainhead Run backwards for a block up W Court Ave
Turn right and run forward for a block up Monument Street
Turn right and run backwards for a block up Maxwell Street back up to Main St
Turn left and run up/down stairs along Main Street buildings in Downtown Greenwood
Head north and run down stairs into Hampton Place parking lot, down to Dollar General
Come back through parking lot, up stairs back up to Montague Ave
Turn north and run to W Cambridge (take a left, run to top of bridge, turn around, run “The Spur” and back up to Montague)
Turn South and run to Seaboard Avenue (turn left onto Seaboard) and run “Misty Mountain” (Seabord Ave, Right on Pressley St, down to Index Journal, back up Pressley to Seaboard, up Seaboard to Montague)
Turn South on S Main back into Downtown Greenwood and run up/down 4 sets of stairs then back around to Fountainhead for a full 4.65 mile circle

YHC didn’t give full thought of the fact that The Wolverine in reverse = stairs at the end (ouch)

YHC shared my pride in seeing so many men come so far since the birth of F3 Greenwood. I have been here since the beginning and seen many men come and go. I remember the first “run” for many PAX, more closely described as a painful mosey. Very good to see the journey of you men so far, can’t wait to see what the future holds for us all.

YHC shared one of my life verses Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven”. YHC reminded PAX that just like mother nature that has ever-changing seasons, we too have seasons of life. YHC shared a memorable sermon preached one Sunday when the pastor stated that at any given time, you are either getting ready to enter a storm, you are in a storm, or you are just coming out of storm. With a group as small as we had this morning, there is somebody in a storm right now. Either struggling physically, emotionally, professionally, financially, professionally, or within the marriage/family. YHC suggested PAX seek peace and comfort from the word of God, as well council from someone they trust. If PAX is in a storm, YHC offered a prayer of perseverance. If a PAX has just come out and weathered a storm, YHC suggested they offer prayer of thanksgiving and use it as a source of strength. And if any PAX does not find themselves in a storm right now, YHC encouraged them to prepare….cause it could be just around the corner.
