9 Pax rose up this morning, Good Friday, to take on the challenge of honoring the Ultimate Sacrifice, made be Jesus Christ, for all mankind’s benefit.
Conditions: Low 60’s. Can’t get much better than this.
Disclaimer: Given once we grabbed the Coupons
Warm Up: It’s warm enough outside. No need. No time.
The Workout:
Here’s the actual workout YHC chose (Thanks to Juggernaut for bringing it to my attention):
Jesus WOD
14 rounds for time of:
- 10 Dead Lifts (Using 95/65 Barbell)
- 10 Squat Cleans (Using 95/65 Barbell)
- 10 Push-Press (Using 95/65 Barbell)
- 50 ft of Walking Lunges w/ Barbell on back + walk back to starting point
- After Rounds 3, 7, 9 do 7 Turkish Get Ups (Using a 53/35 Kettle Bell)
Athletes may only “de-load” the barbell from their control during rounds 3, 7, and 9. As these three rounds are completed, the athlete must place the barbell on the ground, pick-up a kettlebell (53/35), and complete 7 Turkish get-ups (for a total of 21 TGUs across the three rounds).
Since we are without Barbells, Weights, and 53 lb. Kettle Bells here’s how we modified the w/o:

- 50 Lunge Steps (Counting each leg) with Coupon on back
- 7 Turkish Get Ups using XL Brick (Borrowed from Fury AO)

Devo:
While the norm here at RED Friday is to pick a Hero WOD that has been developed to honor a fallen Hero, today is different. Today is the day that we honor the greatest sacrifice made for all mankind. Today is Good Friday, which is the day Jesus Christ was crucified on the Cross. The Virgin Birth, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection of Christ are all three critical components of Jesus’ life, but the Crucifixion is the moment that Jesus Christ sacrificed himself and bore the sins of all mankind. Thus, allowing us entrance into the gates of Heaven, despite living a sinful life. The key to this gift is we must be willing to accept it. His sacrifice goes for naught, if we don’t answer the call of the Holy Spirit and accept Jesus Christ in our hearts as our Lord and Savior.
Today’s devotion from “Daily Devotional” put out by Rice Memorial is titled, “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by?”
John Griffin, who controlled a railway drawbridge over the Mississippi River, took his son to work with him one day. After putting the massive drawbridge up, Griffin was eating lunch when suddenly he heard the whistle of the Memphis Express roaring toward the crossing. Leaping from the observation deck, he ran to throw the control switch. Glancing down, his heart stopped! His son had fallen into the gears, trapping his leg in the cogs. Desperately he tried to devise a rescue plan, but there was no time. His son was down there – but there were 400 passengers on the train! Griffin knew what he had to do. Burying his face in his arm, he pushed the master switch just in time to lower the bridge into place as the train thundered across. Then raising his head he looked into the passing windows with tear-filled eyes. There were businessmen casually reading the newspaper, ladies sipping coffee, and children eating ice cream. Nobody even looked at the control house or glanced down at the great gearbox. In agony Griffin cried out, “I sacrificed my son for you people. Don’t you care?” But as the train rushed by, nobody heard the anguished father’s words.
The first question proposed, “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by?” This comes from Lamentations 1:12 where Jerusalem is sitting on the ground asking passerby’s this question concerning her pain and suffering“. On this Good Friday as we consider the cross where God sacrificed His Son for each of us, He can ask us the same question: “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by?”
The 2nd question then becomes: “What… shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ? This is what Pilot asked the crowd in Matthew 27:22. Their answer was to “Crucify him”. BUT… for those of us here today, there should be only one answer: “Today, I accept him as my Savior and my Lord.”
If you have not made that decision in your life I encourage you to open your heart to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. There are members of our F3 family that clearly walk the walk and will be more than willing to talk to you in private. If you have already made that choice, I challenge you today and every day from here on out, to make sure you keep that commitment in the forefront of your life and live as a light for Jesus, so that others may see the gift of his sacrifice in you.
(NIV) 1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the Cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed”
