10 posted for a Tour of Bear Cat Land.

Conditions: Hot, humid, the air was thick and standing was enough to make the pax bodies sweat.  This is a good spot to remind everyone to remember to stay on top of your hydration!

Disclaimer: Given as Pusher and Uncle Jesse were walking up.  “0600 boys, time to start!”

The Warm Up: This is Fury, there ain’t no stinking warm up!

The THANG: We broke up into to partners and proceeded to mosey.  Leaving Fury, we headed South to Laurel and then West to the light, taking Glenwood to Gracemont.  We moseyed up Gracemont until we hit Wilson which provided a straight shot to the fancy water fountain in the heart of Lander University.  There were 3 stops along the way to perform 10/20/30, 10Merkins, 20LBC’s, 30Squats.  Once arriving at the fountain, the partner work began.  On the surrounding concrete benches perform 20LBC’s, 20Dips, 20Flutter Kicks while your partner waits patiently in the front leaning rest position, aka the plank.  Flap Jack.  Rinse and repeat, deducting 5 from each exercise per round.  Plank for the 6.  We then moseyed once all the work was paid up.  The courtyard was our destination.  YHC remembers this courtyard vividly from my days as a rebellious skateboarder some 20 years prior.  The basic structure is still the same, but has been updated to match the rest of this beautiful campus.  At the bottom of the long sloping staircase bearcrawl to the top but remember to perform 10Pike Merkins at each set of stairs.  I was first introduced to Pike Merkins at Blackbeard’s Revenge by a guest Q from the Mothership back in Charlotte.  A few here and there and they are easily forgettable, few stacked on repeat and they become a ball peen hammer of shoulder pain.  They were to accentuate the grand finale of work for our tour.  We moseyed from the top of the stairs past the Eno village and around the bend to the outdoor amphitheater.  Going directly to the grassy bottom YHC delivered the required work, 10Triceps Merkins and 10 1-Legged Lunges (10 each leg) to be performed on every level of seating from bottom to top.  The call was to originally just box jump up to the next level, but UJ really wanted to Box Jump the whole thing in once continuous effort, so YHC made the modification to do this last.  After level 2 it was apparent that 10 1-Legged Lunges were a bit excessive especially staring down another 12 more rows of seats, so the call was made to drop the reps to 5 per leg.  Time ran out, so recover was called for the box jump ascent and then off we went moseying our way back to Fury.  This time we took Sproles to Grace to Laurel to return.  There were 4 stops of 10/20/30, along with 1 stop for 20Merkins.  Once reaching Fury Rd, the call was 10Merkins here, at Jug’s Yield Sign, and at the flag.

Naked Man Moleskin:  Welcome back Spud!  After an all too long hiatus it was a real pleasure to see him out and about.  YHC looks forward to spending more time in the gloom with this guy for sure.

Welcome XRay to Fury!  It was good to see you a few weeks back at the FNG Day, and likewise for this visit.  Hopefully the running didn’t scare you off from future visits to Fury.

The entire workout was built around the premise of putting in work at the amphitheater.  Unfortunately, there were too many other wonderful spots that drew my attention and left little time for the outdoor coliseum.  It will no doubt  be a focus of effort at a Q very soon.

Fury is truly a unique AO providing many many different types of terrain with which to explore and make interesting workout combinations.  The willingness and enthusiasm of the men that post to visit these destinations is unrivaled.  It was a pleasure leading such a group this morning.
