YHC was runin by the YMCA one day and started thinking about a Relay for Life he had participated in a few years back and thought that the Relay for Life and F3Greenwood would be a perfect fit…..YHC really did nothing other than share the thought and was a little obnoxious in the days leading up to and dang if it didn’t turn out to be one awesome night.
Being the Q, YHC had to come up with something F3 worthy to do during the 6 hour event….that said something had to be such that all PAX would be able to start and complete and enjoy (lets face it, that’s not always the case in F3 in regards to 6hr events)…..so, YHC decided he would try his best to make this a 2nd F event through and through…..and with little effort at all, thats exactly what happened…
A halfhearted disclaimer was issued at some point and off we went…
RelayforLife is an event that takes place in towns across the country to bring awareness to cancer….it’s devastating effects on the body, on families, on our nation. RFL is an event that recognizes those who have lost the fight against cancer, it celebrates those who have survived, and encourages all to learn about and contribute to, the ongoing fight against the disease….RFL is a huge fundraising event for The American Cancer Society.
F3Greenwood raised in the neighborhood of 1200$
That being said, back to F3’s participation…..
we began by walking the laps with everyone else, that progressed very quickly into 10-20 merkins at the end of each lap…..at some point JudgeHairy began to karaoke F3 style in front of the karaoke tent…..at some point soon there after, Polly decided we needed to run with sandbags so he disappeared for a bit and came back with sandbags….there were a few laps completed with sandbags but that didn’t last long (thank goodness). about halfway thru the event, a handful of PAX broke ranks and ran a 10k off track….Polly and JudgeHairy both ran their very first 10k and both went on to reach 30,000 steps during the event…AWESOME job guys!!!!! We at some point won the Most Spirit award…woohoo!
Several PAX had their families out with them walking laps, playing games, having tons of fun which was awesome cause that’s what Relay is all about as well as 2nd F…..my wife came out and walked several laps for her many family members lost to cancer including her father Al who lost his battle at the age of 47….
The evening ended in true F3 fashion with a workout (a 17 PAX, PAX choice wo, 20 reps each) which was work and entertaining at the same time (any workout is entertaining when Jugz and Polly are there together)….we remained circled up for the count….had nameOrama….named an FNG, HashBrown, i believe (it was late), Spud’s youngest 2.0…..
YHC has, in his short time with F3, seen some powerful things going on in F3….JudgeHairy’s story, MeterMaids devo’s, Juggernauts R.E.D. Fridays…..Bojangles adopted son’s story at Epicenter one morning….all the changes in PAX lives in general both physical and spiritual….all the prayers in the gloom always feel like they have some special F3 force lowing thru them….
Friday night’s CoT was emotionally powerful…..in fact, Juggernaut commented “the CoT at the end is one of the most amazing moments i have ever experienced”…..I could not agree more….YHC instead of asking for prayer request, asked everyone in the CoT to tell us how they had been affected by cancer….all 17 of us had lost someone close, or was presently dealing with cancer in some way…..But for me, the defining moment of the night and F3 in general was when Tommie Parker AKA Pothole shared his story…..Pothole told us of his moment not long ago (Nov, i think) when he decided he wanted to make a change in his life….he posted for the first time, and then just a few more times when he lost his father to cancer….he said that the outpouring of prayers and encouragement from F3 brothers that he had only known a short time was not only overwhelming, but actually played a huge part in getting him thru the loss…he went on to tell us that his father had been on his mind thru out Friday night and that coupled with thoughts of how far F3 has brought him from that loss…..obviously brought out some emotions….in all of us
YHC has in a very short time grown to consider Pothole a brother (as well as all the other PAX) and was very humbly proud to have been there to witness this emotional moment. It was in my opinion the most F3 defining moment i’ve been a part of. It was everything F3 is.
Then we prayed
