F3 Greenwood

YHC arrived early since this was my VQ.  As I was parking, I noticed the sprinklers were dropping some irrigation precipitation on the soccer field (more on that later).  No surprise to see Meatloaf’s truck and no Meatloaf. Of course, Meatloaf “was running”. Then as others arrived Uncle Buck comes trotting in from home. No surprise either.  These two are “runnin fools”.

Matthew 14:22-34 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.

23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,

24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.

26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Jesus ability to walking on water is most often the focus of this scripture. His power is evident while walking on water.  But there is much to be learned from Peter’s actions in his brief walk on water also. First, while the other disciples were fearful Peter stepped out of the boat in faith. Peter’s faith was strong at first but then as the storm around him caused him To be fearful and he began to sink into the water. He then focused back on Jesus and cried out for Jesus to save him. We are also strong in faith at times then digress to our sinful nature. God saved us through the blood of Jesus.  If we accept Jesus as our saver, God’s grace allows us to learn and try again.

Peter stepping out of the boat also teaches us that if we stay in the boat we may miss something great in our lives. We may never influence others as we are meant to. Can you imagine the reassurance the other disciples felt when they saw Peter walking on water toward Jesus? We should also be an example to others and step out in faith to increase God’s kingdom. Sure we are doing to digress at times and feel as though we are drowning, but God’s grace never demands more of us than we can handle.

A few weeks ago I told my M I was considering Qing a workout. Part of our Sunday school discussion that week was as outlined above. During that discussion she leaned over to me and said “are you going to step out of the boat and lead that workout?”  I was afraid of not doing everything right. Not calling cadence properly, not being at the front of the pax, not being able to adjust the workout if necessary…….a million things went through my mind. A million unfounded excuses.  You don’t have to be perfect. None of us are professionals…..much less perfect.

NMM:

Back to the irrigation precipitation…..YHC thought what do I do? Heck, this is F3, we go with it. Rain, shine, cold or hot: work gets done. I set the cones on the soccer field.  We will deal with getting wet later.  Fortunately, for Mr. Bean the irrigation precipitation was confined to the opposite end of the field and work was done without getting wet. Polly did complain about the grass being wet. Come on man!!  Epicenter Mumblechatter lived up to its reputation from warm-up to name-o-rama. Warm-up mumblechatter accused YHC of only knowing how to count to 20.  First duty station pax accused YHC of bringing a Fury workout to Epicenter (boosted my ego big time). During 10 and 7 minute AMRAP mumblechatter peaked with more than one “this workout sucks” comments.  I also heard “the merkin challenge was over last month”. Mumblechatter = a language only understood by F3 pax. Thanks for the encouragement brothers.

WORK WAS DONE BY ALL. Truly an honor and privilege to lead this group of men.

Pothole out!!!
