It was another wet and rainy morning at RedFriday.  That seems to be a reoccurring event these days.  However, we know what it takes to get better.  We have to suck it up and get the job done.  In addition to the rain, we learned at 5:15 that our scheduled Q was not going to make it.  That is okay.  We all have those days.  The four of us pulled up the list of hero WOD’s and selected a workout.  We chose Helton.

The work went like this.

3 Rounds For Time

  • 800 meter Run
  • 30 Squats
  • 30 Burpees

We all finished around the same time.  I did not see this mornings workout as a competition.  We all worked together.  We ran together and did the excercises together.  We all felt the discomfort of the rain together and I am sure had second thoughts about being there.  However, we all did the work as a unit of 1.  Don’t get me wrong, I like the competition that RedFriday brings.  It’s fun to work against the clock, against yourself and against others.  It’s also nice to know when things are uncomfortable, we can come together and support eachother to get through it.  I don’t think this stops at wet and rainy workouts.

This work out is to honor Joseph D. Helton.

U.S. Air Force Security Forces 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton, 24, of Monroe, GA, assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL, was killed September 8th, 2009, while on a mission near Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

Helton is survivedby his mother, Jiffy Helton.

The “Helton” Hero WOD was first posted on crossfit.com as the workout of the day for Friday, September 10, 2010 (100910).
