The Hard Commit Train ended with 3 pax committing to post for q workout Q’d by Piddler. Unfortunately, Piddler never showed.
YHC woke up this morning, got dressed, and headed out the door for Fury as usual except for the fact that I was about 10 minutes earlier than normal. That was a good thing, because the cold had drained the battery on the rickety racer which refused to start. Thinking quick, I ran back inside to swap keys and stole the wifey’s minivan for the gloom time commute. Arriving at my normal right on time to Fury, there were only two cars in the parking lot. Hmm ………. Yep, Inspector and Southern Belle were there but where oh where was Piddler? At 0501, YHC made the motion to start without him and so we three proceeded to the Prison Yard.
Conditions: 14F with frozen snow still covering the ground in large swaths
Disclaimer: Forgotten
The Warm Up:
30 Burpees
30 BBSU’s
30 Dips
30 Leg Raises
No longer were we really really cold, we were more just really cold.
Taking a turn from Uncle Jesse’s playbook, YHC called for a mosey down to Hibachi Hill and back. This is an even mile if leaving from the Prison Yard. At the half way point, I mentioned that we needed to find a faster pace that was uncomfortable and keep it all the way back.
Next Up we decided on a Dead Hang/ Calf Raise medley.
50 second hang, 50 raises
40 second hang, 40 raises
30, 30
It was right here that Inspector could no longer feel his fingers, even though they were wrapped in two pair of gloves. YHC thought it best to knock out a few Side Straddle Hops to get the blood flowing back into the extremities.
51 (4count) SSH’s IC
20, 20
10, 10
Not to sell ourselves short, we finished up the final 49 SSH’s to round it out to a cool (literally) 100.
Next it was time to work on some abs. “Grab two bricks…….wait, that’s too heavy, just use one.”
20 side to side twists holding a brick arms straight out.
20 up and down swings holding the brick
20 ax chops left side holding the brick then the right side
Then it was time to mosey to the gazebo.
50 Step up Knee raises counting each leg
25 Leg Raises on top of the picnic tables
25 Merkins
25 Leg Raises on the picnic tables
25 Hand Release Merkins
25 LBC’s
And finally another mosey down and back on Hibachi Hill to conclude the festivities.

Where the heck was Piddler? Well it turns out that he did in fact oversleep. He did meet us at the Waffle House for coffee afterwards. We went there, because SBucks was closed and the guy at Panera is still probably staring at the floor to avoid eye contact.
Inspector wasn’t going to post. He had told me yesterday that it was going to be too cold and too dangerous to get there, but late last night he changed his mind. Good on him! He thought he was prepared wearing two pair of gloves, but apparently they weren’t the right two pair of gloves. He was hard charging the whole day even with his cold cold phalanges.
Southern Belle brought it today and waited for us on most of the exercises. YHC was thinking that due to the cold and misery, that when he left about 15 minutes early, his normal Fury departure time, we’d ball it up and roll out then as well. When I asked what time he was leaving, he replied, “I’m here till the end because school’s out.” AGHHH! Well the joke was on us as our reprieve was smashed with his reply.
It isn’t often that a Q doesn’t make their workout, but when it does happen someone needs to be ready to step up and take charge. Luckily today I had some ideas about how to stay warm that didn’t involve bear crawls or performing more than 30 Burpees. The guys were great sports and some good 2ndF during our 1stF was had. This is one of the reasons we do what we do. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out what Piddler had planned. See ya round da gloom.
