I added an appropriate song from one of my favorite bands, Phish. The name of the song is Water in the Sky. One of the versus is listed below. It wasn’t written about a bunch of guys struggling to breath from working out really hard in the rain, but I began to think about the heavy breathing during Murderer’s Row and remembered this verse. So I hope you enjoy this song while reading the rest of this BackBlast.

Thunder calls through waterfalls
Rising tides and ocean walls
I can hear you when you sigh

I can hear you when you sigh
Through the water in the sky

5 pax post for a frigid rainy day at Fury.

Yesterday afternoon, YHC’s phone began to blow up with texts from Uncle J recruiting all of these heavy hitters. It became apparent that something extra special would need to be concocted to challenge these furious souls. With the HC’s pouring in, a team event would bring an added degree of intensity. The stage was set for what could be an epic event.

Conditions:
38F Cold and misty/drizzling, then raining. A rain storm rolled in just before gloom time and continued until well after the COT.

Starting at the bottom run up to the first entrance to Merrywood and perform 10 merkins. Run back to the bottom and perform 10 merkins. Run up to the second entrance and perform 10 merkins, run back to the bottom and perform 10 merkins. Run to the third entrance and perform 20 Kettle Bell swings, then run back and perform 10 merkins.

Plank for the 6.

Rd2
All stops perform 10 Reverse Crunches except the top entrance, perform 50 bench presses.

We then moved on to a favorite of mine that was first utilized by Uncle Jesse, in the rain no less. Murderer’s Row is a transit alongside the Bypass between Fury Rd and Grace St. at each light pole the pax must perform some prescribed work. Today, we started at Fury Rd and went to Grace performing 20 LBC’s at every light pole. YHC had originally having called for 20 WW1 sit ups on the way back, but after what seemed like 10 or so new “additional” poles were added to this stretch a modification was necessary. So on the way back 20 Bonnie Blair’s were performed at each light pole. This is where things started to get hazy. By the end of these, YHC had developed a nasty feeling of nausea that was trying hard to get the Q to merlot at his own workout. Wow, how horrible that feeling actually was!

After Murderer’s Row, there was just enough time to grab the blocks and head back up Fury Rd. There was approx. 6 mins left when reaching the top of the hill, so YHC made the call for Mary under the light pole across from the practice field.

WWI Sit Ups x20
Burpees x20
Overhead Presses x20
Merkins x20
Flutter Kicks x50
ManMakers x20

Time was called and coupons were returned. We all moseyed back to the flag.

NMM: With all of the HC’s the night prior, YHC was slightly disappointed when go tine hit and there were only 5 brave souls. This complicated matters since the workout was created with teams to compete. The gazebo was used a as place to raise heart rates and body temps prior to embracing the suck on Fury Rd. That’s what the day was mostly about embracing the suck. MeterMaid used that phrase afterwards to describe our gloom time and it most perfectly applies. With the acceptance of being wet and cold came a peaceful tranquility, well at least until the Bonnie Blair’s.
YHC struggled the entire workout trying to keep up with these 4 fantastic athletes. On the return up Fury Rd, YHC had to pass along the Circle of Mary and finally caught up to the group after they were completing the WW1 Sit Ups. It was during Mary that a white car snuck up the hill and decided it was going to try and make us jump up off our backs to avoid being crushed in the cold rainy street. We talk about having reflective clothing on while working at Fury, the closest was Snake Eyes white 40oz to Freedom shirt. The rest of us had on black. The car still would have had trouble seeing us because we were all laying on the ground in the middle of the road.
There was some trash talking going on, but Uncle Jesse silenced everyone when he walked off and left us on Murderer’s Row. It is truly a sight to see guys going hard and him just pulling away. The rest of us struggled with what the superhuman finds easy, the Bonnie Blair’s.
Snake Eyes posted and got after it. He was pushing UJ and Duggar every step of the way. YHC is glad that MeterMaid was there. The struggle was real and he is a person that feeds the intensity of others just by being intense himself. Plus it was nice to have someone 5 steps ahead of me to keep up with instead of the other 3 which were 25 steps ahead on most exercises. With men like this, a Q can feel intimidated. It is necessary to adequately challenge them physically, especially in the cold rain. YHC hopes that that is what happened. It was truly my pleasure today gentlemen.
