F3 Greenwood

REDFriday made a second Saturday appearance in the birthplace of F3, albeit in the mysterious area north of 19th street where F3 won’t work. Still, YHC and a couple of roll dogs piled in the #ClownCar and made the trip to that mysterious land to share a passion for intensity and Heros.

MeterMaid agreed to make the trip with YHC and Rodman (who still wets the bed) said it sounded like fun. So MeterMaid HC’d him to join us for some fun up in Yankee Land.

El Tres Amigos arrived early with Job and the Mog Mile on the brain. After a little AO scouting and seeing about 20 men gathering in the parking lot, an audible was called to Maupin, which involves an 800M run. YHC accompanied MM and the #MagicWheel around what turned out to be a 400m parking lot. Perfect. As we arrived back at the shovel flags, the size of the crowd looking to honor a hero had doubled. Aye.

YHC and the crew from #TheWood settled on Maupin as the WOD. Army Staff Sgt. Keith “Matt” Maupin was killed in Afghanistan on April 9, 2004. His remains were not found until four years later. But every man comes home. Period. More on that later.

MAUPIN

4 Rounds For Time (4RFT)

  • 800m run
  • 49 Merkins
  • 49 Big Boy Sit Ups
  • 49 Squats

Times ranged from about 25 mins. (That’s insane, by the way. #GoogleIt) to about 44 mins. Great work, men!

YHC emphasized form and FULL range of motion, particularly on squats. Hip crease below the knees. At REDFriday, we always do the full range of motion and we always do every rep. It’s the least we can do when we think about the man who can’t post anywhere anymore. Aye.

YHC didn’t specify that the work could not be partitioned. #LeadershipFail #ExtremeOwnership Somewhere in round 3, YHC noticed some partitioning going on and quickly moved to correct his earlier communication error. Do the work in the manner prescribed in the WOD. They are designed to test every limit you have.

As pax were finishing, YHC encouraged them to work alongside their brothers, not completing reps for them, but just being there next to them and helping bring them home.

One of the focal points of REDFriday is that team is NOT first. Team is EVERYTHING. YHC is confident the pax will learn to embrace this concept. Never leave a man behind. Never do your own thing. Team is EVERYTHING. This cannot be emphasized enough.

Much to the dismay of some pax, the workout ended a little early. REDFriday is a little bit of a different animal. Sometimes the work doesn;t take the full time of the workout, but if you are going full range of motion on every rep then you will be flat on your back at the end. We also planned to end a little early so that we could talk about Staff Sgt. Maupin and also give a little more info on REDFriday. YHC relayed a personal story about REDFriday and why the focus at these workouts is not filling up your hour, but rather laying it all on the line and pushing yourself and your brothers through the dark place to the other side.

We appreciate the brothers of MECA, Highlands and Tradition for making the commitment to honor our nation’s heros. Whatever your political leanings, we can all agree that these men and women must NEVER be forgotten. Aye.

Thanks for the invite, ForgottenJelly. #HIM

Jugz out!
